A form of B vitamins, folic acid or vitamin B9 helps in the formation of new red blood cells that, in turn, transport oxygen to the various parts of the body. Folic acid also helps maintain normal blood levels in the body and prevents pregnancy complications. It is also known to aid a number of other health conditions including strokes and depression. It is found naturally in leafy vegetables, tomatoes, oranges, mushrooms, beans, asparagus, okra, and animal liver.
