It is a plant in ginger family and the oil derived from it is called galangal oil. It belongs to the family Zingiberaceae. It consists of varieties of oil like stem oil, rhizome oil, leaf oil etc.The compounds of leaf oil are ?-caryophyllene along with ?-farnesene, caryophyllene oxide,1,8-cineole, and fenchyl acetate. The main constituents of the stem oil are cadinene,germacrene,cubenol followed by humulene. The rhizome oil contains fenchyl acetate, ?-caryophyllene, ?-pinene, methyl cinnamate along with limonene, carotol, ?-terpineol etc. The root oil consisted fenchyl acetate along with 1,8 cineole and limonene.
